Lower vigour suits short cycles; higher vigour suits long and very long cycles.
HR (high resistance) means a variety strongly restricts the development of the named pest or disease under normal pressure. IR (intermediate resistance) means it restricts development, but may show more symptoms than a high-resistance variety, especially under heavy pressure. Resistance is not immunity. Performance, yield and disease pressure vary with local conditions, growing system and crop management.

Vertical and container farming grows crops in stacked layers inside a controlled, enclosed space, such as a converted shipping container. In a hot, dry climate such as the UAE, growing indoors is an area we are exploring, because climate, water and light can be managed closely inside the space.
We are exploring which crops suit these systems and how they could be evaluated under local conditions. Our intention is to work with universities and institutions on this.
